The Simplicity Test for Advisors
Complexity is often a mask for incompetence—especially in finance.
If your advisor can't explain their recommendation in one sentence, they either don't understand the strategy or they are trying to confuse you into staying. A true professional simplifies your life; they don't add more 'homework.'
Here is how to run the S3 Simplicity Test on your advisor:
- The One-Sentence Rule: Ask them to justify any asset in your portfolio in a single sentence based on your goals. No jargon allowed.
- The Principle Audit: Do they know your core life principles, or are they just managing your 'risk tolerance' questionnaire?
- The 'Lecture' Red Flag: If you leave a meeting feeling more confused than when you started, that advisor is a liability, not an asset.
